Chowmahalla Palace – Seat of the Nizams

Situated in the heart of the Old City of Hyderabad, the Chowmahalla Palace was the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, who ruled from 1724 CE to 1948 CE. Called the Nizams, the Asaf Jahi rulers were fabulously wealthy, and this is reflected in the gandeur of the Chowmahalla Palace.

Duration: 1 hour
Platform: Zoom
What you need: An internet-enabled device with a decent internet connection
Recommended: Headphones and your favorite snack and beverage!

One of the most visited attractions in Hyderabad, the Chowmahalla Palace is home to the lives of the Nizams, who were amongst the wealthiest rulers in Indian history. We will explore the stories surrounding the lives of the Nizams, as well as the palace from which they ruled.

The lives of the Nizams and how they dealt with the British colonizers is a fascinating story, and flies in the face of the popular notion of the poverty of India. It also held an important place in world history as one of the last remaining Islamic kingdoms after the fall of the Ottoman empire, and definitely the most prosperous.

The virtual walk will be on Zoom, and you can travel back in time from the safety and comfort of your home!
